Individual Pregnancy & Early Parenthood One-off Sessions
Sometimes you don’t need support throughout your entire pregnancy or birth. You need one thoughtful conversation, focused on the particular decision, transition or part of your preparation that feels difficult to make sense of alone.
These sessions can be booked individually and shaped around your circumstances, questions and family. Your partner is welcome to join where appropriate.
*New Standalone Sessions: Introductory Rates available
The work within these sessions isn’t new. Until now, much of it has been offered as part of my wider doula packages. I’m now making these four areas of support available as individual sessions. The first three bookings for each session are available at an introductory rate while I gather feedback and refine how each one works as a standalone service. Once the three introductory places for a session have been booked, its standard rate will apply.
FOR MAKING SENSE OF RECOMMENDATIONS AND OPTIONS
1. Birth Options & Decision Support
You may have been given a recommendation, presented with several options or left an appointment with more questions than answers.
Perhaps you understand the words that were used, but you’re still unsure what they mean for you. Or you’ve gathered so much information that making a decision now feels harder rather than easier.
During this session, we can:
- Make sense of what you have been told
- Explore the relevant evidence in understandable language
- Separate clinical evidence, hospital policy and personal preference
- Identify the benefits, risks and alternatives you may want to discuss
- Clarify what matters most to you
- Prepare useful questions for your care team
- Consider how you would like your preferences to be communicated
This may be particularly helpful when considering:
- Induction of labour
- Planned caesarean birth
- Place of birth
- Pain-relief options
- Fetal monitoring
- Gestational diabetes recommendations
- VBAC
- Recommendations following a scan or consultant appointment
I won’t tell you what decision to make or offer medical advice. My role is to help you understand your options, recognise what information is still missing and feel better able to make a decision that belongs to you.
You’ll leave with:
- A clearer understanding of your options
- A personalised list of questions for your care team
- Greater clarity about your own priorities
- Practical next steps

FOR PREPARING TO SUPPORT BIRTH TOGETHER
2. Birth Partner Preparation
Most birth partners want to help. The difficult part is knowing what meaningful support looks like when labour is intense, plans change or the room becomes busy.
This session goes beyond timing contractions and learning massage techniques. We’ll explore what helps you feel safe, how labour may affect your ability to communicate and what your partner can notice when you’re becoming tired, overwhelmed or unsure.
Together, we can explore:
- What labour may look and sound like from the outside
- How the birth environment can support or disrupt physiology
- Practical comfort measures, movement and positioning
- What helps you feel calm and what may cause you to withdraw
- How your partner can support you without constantly asking what you need
- Ways to communicate with midwives and doctors
- How to ask questions and slow down a pressured conversation
- How to remain connected if circumstances or plans change
- What you may need from each other during the first hours after birth
Your partner doesn’t need to become a birth expert or take responsibility for controlling what happens. They need to understand you, recognise what you may need and feel confident enough to stay present.
You’ll leave with:
- A clearer understanding of your individual roles
- Practical ways your partner can support you
- Shared language for communicating during labour
- Greater confidence in approaching birth as a team

FOR PREPARING THE MOTHER, NOT ONLY THE BABY
3. Early Motherhood & Fourth Trimester Preparation
We spend a great deal of time preparing women to care for their babies. Far less time is spent preparing them for what becoming a mother may do to them.
Matrescence describes the physical, emotional, psychological, relational and neurological transition into motherhood. Pregnancy and early motherhood don’t simply add a baby to your existing life. They can change what your brain notices, how strongly you respond, what feels important and even how you understand yourself.
During this session, we can explore:
- What matrescence is and why the transition can feel so significant
- How pregnancy and early parenthood reshape the parental brain
- Changes in attention, sensitivity, identity and priorities
- The developing relationship between you and your baby
- Your nervous system and what helps you feel supported
- Changes within your relationship with your partner
- Realistic expectations for recovery and early parenthood
- Rest, food, visitors and household responsibilities
- The role of your partner and wider family
- What support is available if things feel harder than expected
We’ll also create a realistic fourth-trimester plan built around your family, rather than an idealised version of life with a newborn.
This isn’t only about surviving the early weeks or learning how to care for your baby. It’s about understanding and supporting the mother you are becoming.
You’ll leave with:
- A clearer understanding of matrescence and the parental brain
- More realistic expectations for the early weeks
- A practical fourth-trimester support plan
- Clearer conversations to have with your partner or family
- A better sense of what you may need emotionally and practically

FOR BUYING LESS AND MAKING YOUR HOME WORK BETTER
4. Baby Essentials & Newborn Home Preparation
Preparing for a baby can quickly become an exercise in buying things.
Parents are surrounded by lists, adverts and well-meaning recommendations, all suggesting that their baby needs another gadget, product or carefully themed piece of equipment.
It can be surprisingly difficult to work out what is genuinely useful, what can wait and what you may never need at all.
Together, we can:
- Look at what you already have
- Identify any genuine gaps
- Separate essentials from helpful extras and things that can wait
- Create a realistic plan for any remaining purchases
- Sort baby clothes by size
- Organise feeding and changing supplies
- Create practical stations around the places you’ll actually use them
- Prepare an accessible area for postnatal recovery
- Develop a simple system for clothes and equipment your baby outgrows
- Make the space easier for both parents to understand and maintain
The practical organisation takes place during an in-home session and is adapted to your space, budget and daily life.
This isn’t an interior-design service, and it isn’t about creating a picture-perfect nursery. It’s about avoiding unnecessary spending, reducing clutter and making the early weeks require a little less thought when you’re tired and your hands are already full.
You’ll leave with:
- A clearer understanding of what you genuinely need
- A simpler and more intentional shopping list
- Baby clothes and supplies organised practically
- Feeding, changing and recovery areas that work for your home
- A system that can adapt as your baby grows

Not Sure Which Session Fits?
Sometimes one situation touches several areas. A recommendation about induction may also affect your partner’s confidence. Preparing for the fourth trimester may reveal that your home or wider support plan needs attention too.
You don’t need to work out the perfect session before contacting me. We can talk briefly about what is happening and decide which type of support would be most useful.
